Betty Joy Etter

“I know he will rise in the resurrection on the last day.”
John 11:24
A Cherished Lifetime
Betty Joy Etter, known as “Joy” Etter was born on December 21, 1945 in Owings Mills, Maryland.
She was baptized on May 18, 1963, at the age of 17.
Joy had an exemplary record of faithfulness for over 60 years. Her and her husband “Jimmy” served in the McConnellsburg, PA congregation.
She lived up to her name, Joy, one of the fruitages of the spirit. She had a great sense of humor, with an infectious laugh, and she’d light up a room with her smile.
She had a wonderful appreciation for spiritual gifts from Jehovah, such as in the picture here in 2013 when the updated version of the New World Translation was released.
Joy especially loved the ministry, as a full-time pioneer in her younger years, and in recent years in phone witnessing and letter writing.
Joy and her husband Jimmy raised four children, Betty, Dennis, and the youngest twins Kevin, and Denise.
She is survived by her four children, 10 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren.
Joy has lived with her son, Kevin Etter and daughter-in-law Christie Etter, for 28 years.
She attended meetings without fail even when she couldn’t be there in person. She listened in on the phone or zoom and loved singing the Kingdom Songs.
Faithful to the end, she attended her last meeting on March 16th, 2024 for the Special Talk. The topic was about the Resurrection hope, which was given by her son Kevin.
She looked forward to the time she’d see her husband Jimmy resurrected and friends she’d lost along the way.
Of course, she also looked forward to perfect health, and the prospect of living forever on earth under God’s Kingdom.

1. Life in this world can be hard.
Life in this world can bring tears and pain.
Still ev’ry day I will say,
“My life is not in vain.”
(CHORUS)
For God is not unrighteous,
And he remembers the love I’ve shown.
So he is ever near me;
With Jehovah, I’m not alone.
Yes, God is my provider and my protector down to the end.
Yes, Jehovah is my Father,
My God and Friend.
2. Gone are the days of my youth;
Days of calamity now are here.
Still through the eyes of my faith,
My hope is bright and clear.
(CHORUS)
For God is not unrighteous,
And he remembers the love I’ve shown.
So he is ever near me;
With Jehovah, I’m not alone.
Yes, God is my provider and my protector down to the end.
Yes, Jehovah is my Father,
My God and Friend.
Joy eagerly looked forward to the day she would welcome her loved ones back to life and we are now waiting to see her in paradise too. If you would like to learn more about Her beliefs and the beautiful hope that is helping our family cope, please visit jw.org.
